4-H Royal Court Requirements

  1. Applications are due in March every year and submitted to the MSU Extension 4-H office, 200 Grand River Ave, Suite 102, Port Huron, Michigan 48060.
  2. Applicants must be between the ages of 15-19 (King & Queen), 12-14 (Duke & Duchess), 9-11 (Prince & Princess) years of age. Age is determined as of January 1 of the current year.
  3. Applicants must send a personal photo, suitable for enlargement and publication. Recommendation is a school photograph.
  4. A selection committee will choose up to 3 females and 3 male applicants from each division to serve on the 4-H Court, based on applications submitted. Applicants chosen for the court will be notified no later than the third Saturday of March.
  5. The court will be interviewed by a committee at Spring Achievement. 4-H King and Queen, Duke and Duchess, Prince and Princess will be announced at the Awards Program of Spring Achievement. Court members must be present at Spring Achievement for an interview and for the awards program. Court members are encouraged to dress in appropriate attire for their interview, as well as for the awards program. Floor-length dresses are discouraged.
  6. 4-H Court reign will be from Spring Achievement to Spring Achievement. The 4-H Court is strongly encouraged to participate in as many 4-H activities throughout their reign as possible, such as workshops, Council Auction, Leader’s Banquet, parades, Fair and Spring Achievement at the conclusion of their reign, as well as make public appearances and conduct radio interviews as requested. The 4-H Court members are to be positive role models, and display appropriate behavior that represents 4-H at all times.
  7. There is no limit to the number of times a member can run for court, but can only hold a specific title once in their 4-H career. Example; if you run for Prince and win but will not be eligible for the next age division (Duke) for another year, you may run for court and serve on court but not hold the Prince title again.
